How to search the Minnesota registry

The Business Filings Online, Search Business Filings searches by business name (begins with or contains), file number, filing status (active or inactive) and include prior names.

  1. Open Search Business Filings on the Secretary of State's Business Filings Online portal.
  2. Choose the Business Name tab or the File Number tab and type your search; a partial name works best.
  3. Set the scope to Begins With or Contains, the status to Active or Inactive, and choose whether to include prior names.
  4. Select Search, then Details next to the business you want.
  5. The record shows file number, status, renewal due date, registered office and agent, and the filing and renewal history.

Three numbers, three agencies

Asking for the wrong number is a common reason a search comes back empty.

What a Minnesota status means

Statutorily dissolvedThe entity missed its annual renewal and is no longer recognized as existing in Minnesota; it can be reinstated retroactively if the name is still available.
