How to search the New Jersey registry

The Business Entity Name Search searches by search Registered Businesses (business name) and search for Available Names.

  1. Open the Business Entity Name Search on the NJ Treasury portal.
  2. Choose Search Registered Businesses to find an existing entity, or Search for Available Names to check a new name.
  3. Type the business name; registered-business results include every match regardless of status.
  4. Note the 10-digit business entity ID and status in the results.
  5. For filed documents or a standing certificate, use the Business Records Service, which charges per item.
